How well are you maintaining your child’s oral health?
For permanent teeth to be healthy and strong, it is very crucial to start building good oral health habits at a very young age.So today I would like to give a few tips on maintaining a child’s good oral health.
Tooth decay happens when bacteria in the teeth produce acid. This acid is normal, but if it is not washed away on a regular basis, it can damage tooth enamel.
So start cleaning your child’s teeth early. Wipe with a damp cloth after every feeding, starting when your child is around 3 months old. When the first baby tooth appears, you can start using a baby toothbrush to prevent early childhood caries. Do not let your child fall asleep with a bottle of juice, milk, or other liquid in their mouth.
Other ways to reduce cavities include limiting eating to snacks and meal times and keeping the juice and other sugary drinks to a minimum. At least twice a day and preferably after every meal, brush your child’s teeth. Brushing before bedtime is critical. If your child is not at risk of tooth decay, begin using a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste when they are three and continue until they are six. Supervise them while they are brushing and make sure they spit out the toothpaste.
Flossing is also very important. You can start flossing your child’s teeth at around the age of three. Take your child to their first dentist appointment within six months of the eruption of their first tooth or by 12 months of age, and try to have a positive attitude when taking your child to the dentist.
